Catholic church sends food aid to Karamoja, appeals for more

The Catholic Church, through its relief and social development oganisation, Caritas, has sent food aid to the people of Karamoja, who are in dire need of food due to drought in the region.
The truck containing the food aid was flagged off by the Director of Caritas Kampala, Fr. Peter Musumba. The send-off event took place at the Uganda Catholic Secretariat, Nsambya, Kampala on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.
Fr. Musumba thanked the Christians for responding to the request for food aid to Karamoja, which archbishop Paul Ssemogerere made a few weeks ago.

“The archbishop was responding to a letter from Bishop Dominic Eibu of Katido, who requested Christians and all Ugandans of goodwill to help brethren in Karamoja who don’t have food due to the drought and other climate change effects. The response of our people has been impressive. But we need more help. Our campaign will be on for 3 months,” Musumba said.
He urged Christians and other people of goodwill to take the food items to the head office of Caritas Kampala at Nsambya (old Ggaba Road). Those who want to get more information can also call: 039 2 176 443/076 2 506 906.
Musumba reminded Christians that helping the needy was not just a matter of charity but a Christian duty for all believers.
