Museveni takes vote hunt to Buyende, Kaliro

President Yoweri Museveni is today, November 18, 2025, taking his vote hunt to the districts of Buyende and Kaliro as he seeks another five-year term in the 2026 General Election.

Museveni, who is standing on the National Resistance Movement party ticket, is campaigning under the theme: Protecting the Gains, Making a Qualitative Leap into High Middle-Income Status.

The theme focuses on safeguarding achievements over the past 39 years, such as peace and development, while aiming to propel Uganda to a high middle-income status.

Other gains include wealth creation initiatives, job opportunities, service delivery, market access, as well as East African political federation.

By the time of writing this story, Museveni was set to hold his first campaign rally of the day at Kagulu Primary School playground in Buyende, and his second and final event at Bulumba Ginnery in Kaliro.

About the two districts

Buyende has a population of 403,486 people scattered across 14 sub-counties/town councils, 73 parishes and 546 villages.

In the 2021 General Election, Buyende had 138,849 registered voters, and out of these, 84,965 (61.2%) voted.

Museveni polled 47,916 (59.3%) votes while his main rival, Robert Kyagulanyi of the National Unity Platform party, garnered 30,252 (37.3%).

Buyende now has a total of 170,891 voters, with 409 polling stations, up from 281 in 2021.

In Kaliro, 286,397 inhabitants are living in 15 sub-counties/town councils, 87 parishes and 598 villages.

In the 2021 general election, Kaliro had 109,466 registered voters, and out of these, 70,504 (64.4%) voted.

Museveni polled 38,189 (56.7%) while Kyagulanyi got 27,032 (40.1%). 

Kaliro now has a total of 131,621 voters and 335 polling stations, up from 259 in 2021.
