Juliana Kagwa, former Marketing and Corporate Relations Director at Uganda Breweries Limited, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB).
She succeeds Lilly Ajarova, whose tenure ended in March this year.
Kagwa emerged victorious in a competitive selection process that included notable contenders such as Simon Kasyate, Chemonges Sabila, Grace Nshemeirwe, Makuba Gwaku, and Peter Muramira.
Ajarova leaves behind a legacy marked by significant achievements, including the rebranding of Uganda as a tourism destination and promoting signature experiences such as mountain gorilla tracking, adventure tourism, and marine safaris.
Her efforts contributed to increased tourist arrivals, higher expenditure, visibility and extended visitor stays.
As Kagwa steps into her new role, stakeholders in the tourism industry are eager to see what direction she will take.
Expectations are high, with calls for the expedited grading of hospitality facilities, the development of new tourism products, and stronger regulation and oversight of the sector.
