Weatherhead defender Brian Okodi confident in team’s title ambitions

Weatherhead Hockey Club defender Brian Okodi has expressed confidence that his team’s defensive discipline will play a crucial role in their pursuit of the National Hockey League title this season.

Weatherhead has made a sensational start to the league, scoring 18 goals in their opening two matches while maintaining a flawless defensive record. Their solid backline has been instrumental in keeping opponents at bay, laying the foundation for their early success.

“We are not going to give any leeway to our opponents by clumsily conceding in games where we can avoid it,” Okodi stated in an interview with Vision Sports.

The defender was a standout performer in Weatherhead’s emphatic 15-0 victory over Kampala Hockey Club (KHC) Originals over the weekend, contributing an impressive six goals. Alex Mutinda added a hat trick, while Asharaf Tumwesigye and Maxwell Mugisa each scored twice. Moses Tushabe and Topher Kyamanywa also found the back of the net, capping off a dominant team performance.

Reflecting on last season, Okodi acknowledged that the team owed their loyal fans a strong start this year.

“We feel like we let our fans down last season, so we need to repay them with both positive results and, ultimately, the title,” he said.

The victory propelled Weatherhead to the top of the league standings, surpassing Thunters on goal difference.

In the women’s category, Weatherhead Gazelles also made a statement with a commanding 10-0 win over Thunders, securing the top spot in the league with six points.

With their combination of defensive solidity and attacking firepower, Weatherhead Hockey Club is well-positioned to challenge for the title this season, aiming to deliver on their promise to fans and cement their status as one of the league’s top teams.
