Uganda 40 Malawi 54
Two matches two losses for the She Cranes following the weekend of action at the Vitality Netball Nations Cup in England.
While they lost to the higher-ranked South Africa on Saturday, Sunday was horrifying as they fell to Malawi who are lower ranked which leaves sixth place hanging in the balance.
The teams’ struggles in the mid-court were once again highlighted as they struggled to transition the ball from defence to attack. Malawi had a good day suffocating Uganda’s midfield and it paid dividends as they won the match by 40-54 the largest victory by Malawi in the last few years.
It is evident that there are physical struggles within the squad by just looking at the fact that experienced players like Sandra Nambirige are not getting enough minutes, Eyaru does not look her best while centre, Baagala, has her struggles.
The players are five steps behind in terms of match fitness.
Out of contention
By picking up their second tournament loss, it is evident that Uganda is now out of contention for the championship and will probably only play for third place.
The She Cranes will need to put in a huge effort against England next weekend and maybe just maybe they will be able to step up to the plate. They must work on their efficiency and tenacity on and off the ball.
They need to ensure that they win the ball back and get more intercepts and turnovers, but they have to be proud of the efforts they've managed to put up. Next weekend is another opportunity to be great it is all about seizing their chances.
