KCCA Netball Club stands on the brink of history. With just two matches left to complete their season, the Nakivubo Blue based side sits firmly at the top of the National Netball Super League table with 41 points from 22 games making them the clear favorites to clinch the 2025 league title.

For head coach Fred Mugerwa, this moment could finally mark the turning point in an otherwise frustrating club-level journey.

Since joining KCCA in 2018, the vastly experienced tactician has yet to lift a league trophy despite enjoying remarkable success with the national team, the She Cranes.

At club level, luck has repeatedly slipped through his fingers. During his time with both Police and KCCA, Mugerwa has guided strong squads but never stood on the podium as league champion. This season, however, feels different.

KCCA’s remaining fixtures pit them against Makindye Weyonje and Prisons, two sides they defeated in the first round. They edged UCU 46 :44 and confidently beat Makindye Weyonje

54:43 results that give them a psychological advantage heading into the final stretch.

Second-placed NIC, who are trailing closely, still have three matches to navigate against UCU, Makindye Weyonje, and UPDF. With NIC still in the race, the pressure is firmly on KCCA to win both of their remaining games to stay in control of their destiny.

Mugerwa believes the difference this season has been consistency and mental discipline.

“I’m waiting for my players returning from national duty to know exactly where to focus. It will be rare for us to lose the remaining games unless something big happens. We are focused, and we are staying focused to win this league title,” Mugerwa emphasized.

KCCA boasts one of the most balanced squads in the league this year from sharp shooters to a solid mid-court and a disciplined defensive line. The quality and depth across the court make their title charge not only realistic but expected.

For Mugerwa, this is more than just another league campaign. It is an opportunity to finally silence the narrative around his club-level misfortune and to cement his legacy with a long-awaited league triumph.

With everything falling into place, it truly feels like now or never for the KCCA head coach.
