Officials from the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) and the Ministry of Education and Sports have completed a five-day inspection of schools bidding to host the 2026 USSSA national competitions.
The inspection, which ran from September 30 to October 5, covered ten schools across Western, Central, and Northern Uganda that submitted formal requests to host the prestigious annual event.
Split into two clusters, the inspection teams evaluated key infrastructure including playgrounds, training facilities, accommodation, medical services, hotels, and other local amenities essential for the smooth operation of the games.
The Western and Central Uganda team, led by USSSA First Vice President Hajji Twahil, visited St. Mary's College Rushoroza, Ntare High School, Nyakasura School, Mbarara High School, Seroma Christian High School, Forest Hill College, and St. Janan Secondary School Bombo Campus.
“Our inspection tour in Western and Central Uganda was a success. Each school gave us a warm welcome and had the essential facilities required to host the national championships,” said Twahil.
He added that the team assessed accommodation standards, medical readiness, feeding arrangements, security, and overall infrastructure to ensure a safe and successful event.
“Our mission was to verify whether the bidding schools had the capacity to host—covering athlete and spectator safety, accessibility, evidence of co-hosting arrangements, and collaboration with local authorities,” Twahil explained.
Meanwhile, the Northern Uganda delegation, led by USSSA Second Vice President Bitek Okot, inspected Sacred Heart School, Lango College, Lira Town College, Mvara SS, Gulu High School, and YY Okot Memorial Schools.
“The schools we visited in Northern Uganda met the minimum requirements to host the national competition. However, final confirmation will be made by the national executive committee,” Okot told Vision Sports.
Benson Opira, Deputy Head Teacher at Sacred Heart School, affirmed their readiness to host, citing sufficient accommodation and sports facilities.
“We’re grateful to have hosted the USSSA officials for their fact-finding mission. With full support from our school management, local leaders, business community, and regional politicians, we are ready to welcome schools here,” Opira said.
USSSA President Emeritus Patrick Okanya expressed appreciation to all schools that showed interest in hosting and urged them to work closely with local governments and communities to ensure a successful championship.
USSSA CEO Christopher Mugisha noted that the national games are rotational, and this year’s edition is likely to be awarded to Northern Uganda, pending a decision by the national executive committee.
