Janan SS to host 2026 Elite Secondary Schools’ championships

The 2026 edition of the Elite Secondary Schools’ Championships will be hosted at Janan Secondary School, Bombo campus in Luwero District.

The three-day championship, scheduled for February 26 to March 1, 2026, will feature young boys and girls showcasing their talents across multiple sports disciplines.

Christopher Mugisha, Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA), said the seventh edition of the Elite Schools’ Championship serves as a precursor to the upcoming schools’ sports season, where different schools will compete in zonal and district qualifiers for the main finals.

“Our target is always to bring together the top eight schools per discipline that competed during the 2025 National Championship, with the aim of setting their minds on the upcoming competitions of the year,” Mugisha explained.

According to Mugisha, schools will participate in football, volleyball, basketball (5×5 and 3×3), rugby 7s, and netball. He also emphasized that only bona fide students will be allowed to compete, in line with the 2025/2026 general rules and regulations.

Janan SS takes over hosting duties from St. Joseph of Nazareth High School in Mpigi District, which successfully staged the sixth edition in 2025.

“We are ready to host the games. The playing fields are in excellent condition, and the accommodation facilities are well prepared,” said Ddamulira Akram, team manager at Janan SS.

Akram added that the school has made thorough preparations to ensure a smooth event.

“This is not our first time hosting the games, and with the experience gained from previous editions, we are confident we shall deliver perfectly this time too,” he noted.

The previous championship was held at St. Joseph of Nazareth, Kavule, Mpigi, in February 2025.
