The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Teso Zone has officially opened the bidding process for the 2026 National Secondary School Championships.
The bidding window, which began on January 1, 2026, will run until January 31, 2026, giving schools across the region an opportunity to apply to host or co‑host one of the biggest events on the schools’ sports calendar.
General Secretary Peter Okwii noted that the championships attract thousands of young athletes and feature a wide range of competitions, including National Ball Games I, boys’ football, swimming gala, Ball Games II, athletics, and elite games.
“This annual event is one of the biggest on the schools’ calendar, bringing together talent from across the region,” Okwii said.
According to TEZSSSA, applications must be submitted to the General Secretary either physically or via email, and each bid must be endorsed by the Resident District Commissioner, Chief Administrative Officer, District Education Officer, and District Sports Officer.
TEZSSSA chairperson John Robert Osuu emphasized the importance of the championships as a platform for spotting and nurturing future talent.
“We encourage schools with the facilities, organizational capacity, and local support to step forward and be part of this legacy,” he said.
Osuu added that bidding schools must demonstrate readiness to provide proper venues, accommodation, feeding arrangements, medical support, and security. USSSA has issued a detailed checklist to guide applicants.
The regional championships continue to grow in stature, serving as a launchpad for athletes who later progress to national and international competition.
In 2025, the zonal competitions for boys’ and girls’ football, Ball Games II, and athletics were hosted at Bishop Maraka College and in Kaberamaido District respectively.
