The quarterfinal pairing of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Associations (USSSA) national boys’ football championship ongoing in Kabarole has been completed with the final round of 16 matches at different grounds on Wednesday.

Although there were no noticed surprises as the race for the championship started showing on Wednesday, St Henry’s College Kitovu, Royal Giants Mityana and Amus College remain the only sides to have never won this title in their history.

Buddo SS stormed the quarterfinals of the event after making light work of newcomers Kigumba Royal with a 3-0 win as they kept alive their hopes of returning to the podium.

Goals by Joseph Kiiza, and Jimmy Karema and a penalty by Denis Kisiriko ensured the 2018 national and FEASSSA champions stayed on course for their 3rd national tile, in a championship that was rocked by petitions and dismissals following USSSA’s whip on ineligibility.

And in the Thursday quarterfinal, Buddo SS will meet Royal Giants Mityana who came from a goal down to force a 1-1 draw against Jinja Progressive before eliminating the Busoga champions 3-1 on penalties.

St Mary’s Kitende on the other hand walloped Mbale’s Nkoma SS 6-0 to stage a quarterfinal berth against Wakiso zone foes Standard High Zzana who eliminated Kawempe Moslem 5-4 on penalties after the two sides played to a goalless normal time draw.

Title hopefuls St Henry’s College Kitovu didn’t find any obstacle in beating London College Nansana 4-1 as they keep the search for their maiden national title and will meet home side Westville who surprised St Joseph’s College Layibi with a 5-4 win on penalties after the two sides settled for a 0-0 normal time draw.

Meanwhile, surprise package Amus College, aiming to emulate their girl counterparts who stunned giants to win the Fresh Dairy girls’ football title in Mbarara on Monday, eliminated Mukono Kings High with a 2-1 win to set up a quarterfinal encounter against FEASSSA winners Kibuli SS.

The event that started on Monday last week and was hosted at Nyakasura School in Kabarole, home to 1997 champions St Leo’s College Kyegobe, will climax on Saturday with the finals and official closing ceremony.
