Christopher Banage Mugisha, Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA), has applauded the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) for overturning Kenya’s disputed claim to victory at the recently concluded FEASSA Games in Kakamega.
“I want to thank Justus Mugisha, President of FEASSA, and his team for accepting our petition. Kenya was wrongfully declared the overall winners of the FEASSA Games, and we are pleased that justice has prevailed,” Banage said.
Following a week-long hearing, Uganda’s petition was upheld, confirming the country as the rightful overall champions with 15 gold medals, surpassing Kenya’s tally of 13.
According to Banage, the petition was reviewed by a five-member independent committee chaired by Rwanda’s Paterne Rwiyema (Vice President, Administration), alongside Gikonyo Kariuki (Vice Chair), Patrick Okanya, Deo Joseph, and Joel Gashaka. The committee found the FEASSA secretariat guilty of manipulating medal tallies, announcing results without executive approval, and altering award criteria mid-competition without proper ratification.
“Now we are the true winners of the 22nd edition of the FEASSA Games. We are only waiting for the official handover of the trophy, after which the Ugandan delegation will present it to Mama Janet Kataha Museveni, the Minister of Education and Sports,” Banage added.
The committee’s report concluded that all participating countries had prepared and competed under a unified set of criteria, only for those criteria to be changed mid-competition—undermining fairness and transparency.
As part of its directive, the committee ordered FEASSA to procure independent trophies for the three categories: Secondary, Primary, and Special Needs Education (SNE). The overall trophy wrongly awarded to Kenya must be reassigned to the correct category in which they emerged champions. Two additional trophies must be secured within 72 hours, and FEASSA has been urged to improve communication and transparency in future competitions.
With the ruling, Uganda has now been officially declared the overall champions of the FEASSA Games 2025, reaffirming its dominance in regional secondary school sports.
