Teams traveling to Kakamega in Western Kenya for the 22nd edition of the Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games have been assured of full security throughout the ten-day championship, scheduled to run from August 12 to 23, 2025.
George William Omondi, Assistant Secretary General of FEASSSA, delivered the assurance while presiding over the official team draws held on Thursday at the USSSA head offices at GNS Plaza, Old Kampala.
“I want to assure our people that Kakamega is safe. We have put in place all the necessary infrastructure in terms of security and general welfare, and I warmly welcome all participants to Kakamega,” said Omondi.
He emphasized that the safety of players is a top priority, noting that in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, ambulances and other essential support services will be made available throughout the tournament.
According to Omondi, Kakamega is expected to host over 10,000 participants, coaches, and spectators, as Kenya returns to host the regional championship after an 11-year break.
“I want to assure teams coming for the regional championship that Kakamega is ready to show the world that we can host the best-ever edition. All facilities—including playing fields, accommodation, water supply, health services, secretariat, and security—are in place,” he added.
FEASSSA President Justus Mugisha urged all traveling teams to uphold discipline both on and off the pitch to minimize incidents of hooliganism. Mugisha, who also serves as USSSA President, anticipates a tough battle as Uganda seeks to defend its overall FEASSSA title.
This year’s championship will feature student-athletes from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, and select participants from other African schools. Uganda will be represented by St. Mary’s Kitende, FEASSSA record holders in boys’ football, netball, and basketball; Amus College School, the defending boys’ football champions; St. Noa Girls Secondary School, the defending girls’ football champions; Buddo Secondary School, the current national netball champions; along with Hamdan Islamic School, St. Noa, and St. Mary’s Kitende in netball.
They will face strong competition from regional rivals including Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Burundi, while DR Congo and South Sudan are yet to confirm their participation.
