Fresh from a memorable 1-0 victory over reigning Uganda Premier League (UPL) champions Vipers SC, Entebbe UPPC will be aiming for another win when they face UPDF FC today at Hamz Stadium Nakivubo.

UPPC stunned Vipers at St Mary’s Stadium Kitende on Friday in the opening game of the new season, producing a spirited display under experienced coach Abdallah Mubiru and his assistant Livingstone Mbabazi.

The result was more than just three points for the Entebbe side, who defended resolutely to secure a deserved victory against the champions.

They now face a UPDF side that is also looking for its first win of the campaign after being held to a goalless draw by newly promoted Kataka FC at Hamz Stadium.

UPDF head coach Hussein Mbalangu will demand a much-improved performance from his players after they struggled to impose themselves against Kataka, particularly considering they were playing at home.

Mbalangu will also be wary of UPPC, who completed a league double over UPDF last season.

UPPC won 1-0 when UPDF hosted its home matches in Bombo before securing a 2-0 victory in the reverse fixture at Fisheries Grounds in Bugonga, Entebbe, where UPPC played their home games last season.

The two sides therefore head into today’s encounter with contrasting starts, but UPDF will be determined to prevent UPPC from building momentum after their impressive opening-day victory.

Meanwhile, NEC FC will return to Omondi Stadium Lugogo today, where they will host Lugazi FC.

NEC began their campaign in impressive fashion, defeating KCCA FC 2-0 at the same venue on Saturday.

Lugazi will also arrive in good spirits after opening their season with a 2-1 victory over newly promoted Kigezi Home Boyz at Lugazi Stadium in Najjembe on Saturday.

With both teams having started the season with victories, the encounter at Lugogo promises to be another intriguing contest.
