KCCA FC extended their winning run in the Uganda Premier League (UPL) to six matches after securing a convincing 3-0 victory over Maroons FC at Philip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Wednesday.

The victory lifted the 13-time league champions to fourth place with 19 points from nine matches, four behind leaders BUL FC, who have played the same number of games.

Maroons struggled to contain KCCA from the opening whistle, with their defensive frailties proving costly.

They fell behind in the sixth minute when Derrick Basoga turned Herbert Achayi's cross into his own net.

KCCA went into the break with a 1-0 lead but could have scored more had Sammy Ssebaduka, Charles Lwanga and Saidi Mayanja been more clinical with their chances.

The hosts maintained their attacking intent after the restart and doubled their advantage in the 70th minute. Substitute Ashraf Mugume delivered a corner that the Maroons defence failed to clear, with the ball deflecting off Jackson Nunda and into the net for the visitors' second own goal of the game.

Nunda's unfortunate touch was particularly painful as he was facing his former club, KCCA, while the goal left Maroons with a mountain to climb.

KCCA sealed the victory five minutes from time when super-substitute Lazaro Bwambale finished off a pass to make it 3-0.

The result continued KCCA's impressive recovery after a difficult start to the campaign, in which they suffered consecutive 2-0 defeats to NEC FC and Express FC.

Since those setbacks, KCCA have played seven matches, drawing once and winning the other six, including their current six-match winning streak.

They now have 19 points, four behind leaders BUL, who also have nine matches played.

URA edge Kataka in seven-goal thriller

Elsewhere, URA FC survived a spirited fight from Kataka FC to secure a dramatic 4-3 victory in Bukedea, extending their winning run to three matches since Sam Ssimbwa returned as head coach.

URA made a flying start, taking a 2-0 lead inside the opening nine minutes through Dennis Kisiriko in the fourth minute and Moses Aliro in the ninth.

However, Kataka fought back before half-time, with Martin Wambi reducing the deficit in the 37th minute before Ali Ssentamu levelled matters two minutes before the break to send the teams into the interval at 2-2.

The contest remained lively after the restart, with Nelson Ssenkatuka restoring URA's lead in the 56th minute.

Kataka refused to give up and drew level again in the 69th minute when Richard Lampani converted a penalty to make it 3-3.

Just when the hosts appeared to have secured a point, Abraham Tusubira struck in the 85th minute to hand URA all three points and maintain their winning momentum under Ssimbwa.
