UPDF darts team sets sights on more trophies after defending league title

The Inter-Club championship, Inter-Forces tournament, national play-offs, and the President's Cup are top of the agenda for the Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) darts team after successfully defending the league trophy.
Team captain Abdul Rashid revealed this on Saturday after winning the national darts league trophy at Mamerito Hotel in Bweyogerere, Wakiso district.
"It was a tough league. We started with a defeat against Prisons, but we went back to the drawing board with discipline and teamwork, and we bounced back strong," Rashid said.
"We have defended our trophy, but it is not over. We are going back to the drawing board to start planning for the remaining trophies, including the Inter-Forces, Inter-Club, and President's Cup," he added.
To win the league title, UPDF drew with Police 6-6 and earlier received a walkover against Bank of Uganda, winning 12-0. That result left them level with Uganda Cancer Institute on 50 points each at the top of the table, but UPDF emerged champions based on head-to-head point difference.
Uganda Wildlife Authority finished third with 49 points, while Police and Prisons came fourth and fifth with 44 and 36 points respectively.
Meanwhile, Mzee Baker Khemis, an executive member of the Kampala Zone, cautioned darters against indiscipline. He noted that any sport will develop when maximum discipline is exercised, and that is when it will attract sponsors.
His words were echoed by Uganda Darts Association chairman Abel Ariong, who added that smartness and discipline will lift the sport to higher heights. He lauded UDA trustee Lilian Ama for her relentless support to the association and the sport.
"Let us put aside our differences. Players must train hard and win games. Our task as the executive is to give you the opportunity to play at a high level and win prize money, which improves your welfare," Ariong told darters before handing over the trophy to the winners.
