It was an exciting weekend as the handball super league action continued at Old Kampala Arena in both the women’s and men’s leagues.
In the women’s fixtures, Makerere University beat Mak Queens 31-23, while Kawanda lost to Prisons 36-32 in another mouth-watering encounter. Kyengeza pulled off the biggest upset of the day, beating former champions UPDF 37-31.
UPDF coach George Isabirye attributed the defeat to injuries that ruled several of his experienced players out of the game.
“We did not play well in our previous two games because we lost many experienced players to injuries, but we shall be back strong in our next game,” Isabirye said.
However, he added that he will focus more on the men’s side to achieve their target of defending the title.
“I know that by the time our experienced players in the women’s team heal, it will be too late. So we are going to focus a lot on the men to defend the title,” he said.
In the men’s fixtures, both Wananchi and Ndejje University did not honour their matches, handing walkovers to Prisons and Evergreen HC, respectively.
Bombo-based side Uzalendo Handball Club continued their winning form, beating Kampala University 35-33 in another tough game.
