The Uganda Premier League 2023/2024 season is destined for an enthralling title race. The top three teams (Kitara FC, BUL FC, and Vipers Sports Club) will play each other in the remaining nine games.

Vipers who are on 35 points having played 19 games two less than BUL FC and Kitara FC on 21 games hold a higher advantage to win the title that is if they win the two games.

Still, there is a long way to go for Vipers to claim victory because of the two games in hand. Anything can happen in the remaining fixtures.

While the bookies fancy Vipers to win the title, BUL FC and Kitara have proved a point throughout the season that they deserve respect in the battle for the title.

BUL FC had dominated the table standings for the majority of the season until last month when they dropped points against Maroons and URA which allowed Kitara to leapfrog them from the top spot.

Kitara has provided an intense competition for BUL for the number one spot and now it remains to be seen whether they can manage the pressure until the end of the season.

Dropping points against Maroons last week meant that Kitara had once again allowed BUL to reclaim their favourite spot this season which is being on top of the table and also letting Vipers back into striking distance for the two places which they have struggled to keep previously.

The likelihood of a three-way title fight is getting even more exciting for the UPL fans, neutrals, and the teams that want the cake.

For the third time in the last five years, the Uganda Premier League looks as if the top three teams will finish within less points of each other.

In the 2020/2021 season, Express Football Club claimed the title with 58 points, one above URA FC and two on Vipers, and finished in the third position with 56 points.

The following season, Vipers ran away with it by 78 points, a margin of 18 points against KCCA FC who were the runners-up with 56 points.

Last season, the three-horse race (Vipers, KCCA FC, and SC Villa) kept everyone on their toes until Vipers snatched the trophy from SC Villa on the final day.

We are all enjoying the tension between the three clubs, but the prospect of Kitara and BUL winning the title is one thing that will keep our eyes wide open.
