Vipers SC have appointed seasoned Belgian coach Ivan Jacky Minnaert as head coach, ushering in a new era for the reigning Uganda Premier League champions.
Minnaert, 58, joins the Kitende-based club on a long-term deal, bringing extensive international and African coaching experience to St. Mary’s Stadium.
He will be flanked by assistant coaches John ‘Ayala’ Luyinda and Fred Muhumuza, who led the Venoms to a domestic double in the 2024/25 season and now form part of Minnaert’s revamped technical team.
The Belgian tactician arrives fresh from guiding Fassell FC to the Liberian Premier League title, finishing a dominant 11 points ahead of second-placed Heaven Eleven FC. He also steered Al-Ittihad Tripoli to league glory in Libya’s 2020/21 campaign.
Minnaert’s résumé stretches across Europe and Africa, having coached in Spain (Union Estepona CF and CD San Roque) and on the continent with top-tier sides including Djoliba AC (Mali), AFC Leopards (Kenya), Rayon Sports (Rwanda), AS Kaloum Star (Guinea), Mukura Victory FC (Rwanda), and South Africa’s Black Leopards FC.
Holding a UEFA Pro License—the highest coaching credential—Minnaert is expected to instill tactical discipline, global perspective, and competitive edge into the Vipers setup as they aim to defend their domestic title and make deeper strides in continental competitions.
His arrival reflects Vipers SC’s strategic intent to build on local dominance and establish themselves as a formidable force on the African stage.
