Gaddafi FC appoints Abdallah Mubiru to lead Uganda Premier League charge

Newly promoted Uganda Premier League side Gaddafi FC has appointed Abdallah Mubiru as head coach, marking a bold step ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Unveiled on July 15, Mubiru expressed strong belief in the club's vision and his ambition to craft a side defined by discipline, identity, and purpose.
“I’m here to build a team that plays with purpose, discipline, and identity. With the right support, we can write a new, proud chapter in the club’s legacy,” he said, framing the role as a mission rather than a mere job. He described Gaddafi FC as a club of history, character, and passionate support, signing a two-year contract to succeed Robert Mukasa, the coach who led them back to top-flight football from the FUFA Big League.
His arrival signals Gaddafi FC’s clear intent to move beyond survival in the Uganda Premier League and establish themselves with a lasting identity. Club president Opio Joseph Okurut endorsed Mubiru’s appointment as part of a long-term strategy rooted in professionalism and shared values. “Coach Mubiru brings the experience, professionalism, and values that align perfectly with what we believe in as a club,” he stated.
Known in football circles as “Tabliq,” Mubiru offers extensive experience both domestically and internationally. His coaching résumé includes stints at Vipers SC, Mbeya City FC in Tanzania, and roles with the Uganda Cranes, including as assistant and caretaker coach. He’s recognized for his ability to build resilient and competitive squads, even under pressure.
This new chapter comes shortly after his brief tenure at KCCA FC in 2023. His move to Gaddafi FC injects fresh energy and marks a strategic shift as the club looks to solidify its place among Uganda’s football elite. Mubiru faces the immediate challenge of assembling a squad capable of meeting the tactical and physical demands of top-tier football.
Beyond the pitch, his appointment revives the spirit of UPL football in Entebbe—a town absent from Premier League representation since Masavu FC’s relegation in 2018.
