Coach Rashid Mubiru responded by restoring captain Racheal Nanyonga to wing attack after she had been replaced by Nassim Khadala. The adjustment helped Uganda regain control, while Nabanja played a key role in containing Malawi's experienced goal shooter Mwai Kumwenda, who plays in the Australian league.
Uganda held their nerve in the final stages to secure a 54–49 victory and finish the group phase unbeaten.
Netball Uganda president Jocelyne Ucanda praised the team for reaching the semi-finals and challenged the players to maintain their focus.
"We head to the semi-finals and we progress to the final. We came to win, and I am glad that we have left the group stages with an unbeaten run," Ucanda said.
For Uganda to emerge victorious, Baagala says the She Cranes know that every possession could determine whether Uganda finally ends its wait for another continental title.
