Championship rugby semi finals
Today Fixtures in Jinja
Gulu Falcons v Kitante Eagles
Warriors v Elgon Wolves
The rugby promotion season is coming to a climax and the battle gets into the semi-final stage with clubs battling it out at Jinja Dam Waterz Club today.
Four teams at this stage target the only slot Rams rugby club left in the Nile Special Rugby Premier League this season when they were relegated.
In the semifinal games today, Gulu Falcons take on Kitante Eagles in the first semi-final, while Warriors face Elgon Wolves in the second semifinal.
Kitante Eagles under the stewardship of former Rugby Cranes flyhalf Edmond Tumusiime lifted the Central region championship title and targets replicating the same results by winning the play-offs to join the premiership league.
Tumusiime said that his boys are ready for the challenge and will be ready for both a running game and a physical approach if Gulu applies it.
“The strategy is to play a very physical game to counter the physicality that Gulu City Falcons possess as we target the final,” former KOBs flyhalf noted.
“The players will play as a team and hopefully use the experience they gathered on their way to winning the Central League. We shall take each game at a time but our target is to be in the premiership,” He added.
However, the Warriors who were relegated last season also target returning to the premiership tier.
They take on Mbale side the Elgon Wolves in the second semi-final of the day while Gulu Falcons will play Kitante Eagles at 2 pm at DamWaterz Rugby Club in Jinja.
The winner of the playoffs will join the other nine teams to form the top ten-team premiership league next season.
The other nine teams include Impis, Heathens, Rhinos, Hippos, Walukuba, Mongers, Buffaloes, KOBs, and defending champions Stanbic Black Pirates.
