Standard Chartered Cup’s ‘Road to Anfield’ 2023 winners Steel and Tube are headed to Anfield this weekend to watch the potential English Premier League decider between Liverpool and Manchester City on Sunday.

This is their reward for the once-in-a-lifetime-money can’t-buy experience, having won the annual 5-a-side futsal tournament that offers football fans an opportunity to travel to the UK and tour as well as watch a Premier League match.

The team accompanied by the company’s executive director Nilax Bhatt was flagged off by the bank’s CEO Sanjay Rughani who will also travel with the team alongside John Mwesigye the Chief Operations officer.

The team will set off on Friday aboard Emirates Airlines via Dubai before they enjoy dinners and lunches in between tours in Liverpool.

According to Mwesigye, the team of first flyers will on Sunday tour Anfield ahead of the match on top of interacting with Liverpool legend John Aldridge and further tours on Monday before they return.

Rughani promised them memorable moments on the trip including enjoying the electric atmosphere at Anfield, before urging them to protect the name Uganda by exhibiting the highest discipline throughout the tour.

“When you return to Uganda, you are going to become famous and you’ll never walk alone, and you are going to earn a lot of respect. Every wall you will look at Anfield will talk to you about leadership, passion, prosperity, championship, winning, growth, and transformation,” Rughani stated.

He said the bank’s partnership with Liverpool that started in 2010 was a commitment not only for the team but for the communities that connect with them.

The team captain Eria Balidawa thanked the bank for the opportunity and thanked the Steel and Tube Industries management for supporting them in their sporting activities.

He revealed that they have a field at the factory and train every day the reason they were able to beat the other 28 teams that took part in last year’s tournament.

The other team members include John Ekwaru, Ben Mukiibi, Samuel Kasozi, Arthur Bamuwamye, William Mutyaba, Kenneth Matuba, and Brian Odede.
