St. Noa Girls cruise into quarterfinals as title defence begins in earnest

Defending champions St. Noa Girls booked their place in the quarterfinals of the National Ball Games I girls' football tournament after a commanding 3-0 victory over Moyo Stars High School in the round of 16.

The dominant side set the tone early, racing to three goals within the opening 10 minutes before adding two more strikes in the second half to seal an emphatic 5-0 win.

Elsewhere, Mukono champions Latifah Mixed edged former winners Uganda Martyrs SS, triumphing 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in normal time. Rines SS and Kawempe Muslim also advanced, knocking out Nkoma SS and St. Charles Kasasa, respectively.

In girls' volleyball, defending champions Bukedea Comprehensive cruised past Trinity College Nabbingo in straight sets to secure a semifinal slot. Immaculate Heart registered a similar 3-0 win over Mt. St. Mary's Namagunga, while Tororo Girls overcame Sheema Girls 3-1. Kinaawa High School also reached the last four, defeating Iganga SS 3-0 to set up semifinal clashes at UCU.

In boys' volleyball, Standard High Zzana and holders Bukedea Comprehensive progressed to the semifinals.

Meanwhile, in boys' basketball, Seeta High School A claimed their fourth straight win of the campaign with a narrow 39-34 victory over Merryland High School. St. Cyprian Kyabakadde dominated St. Joseph's Layibi 56-17, Mengo SS escaped with a 30-27 win over Faith High School, while Buddo SS secured a convincing 46-25 win over St. Michael in the day's highlight fixture.
