The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) national Ball Games I came to a thrilling close on Thursday at Seroma Christian High School, with St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende emerging as one of the standout performers after clinching the U-17 girls’ netball crown.
Kitende edged Mukono representatives Hamdan Islamic Secondary School 34-30 in a tense final to complete the tournament unbeaten. Their journey to the title included a semifinal victory over defending champions Madina Islamic Secondary School.

The triumph marked Kitende’s second title at this year’s games, having also captured the girls’ basketball championship with a commanding 49-32 win against holders St. Noa Girls Secondary School.
In boys’ basketball, Amus College School successfully defended their title but were pushed to the limit by St. Michael High School Ssonde before securing a narrow 33-29 victory.
Kibuli Secondary School dominated table tennis, winning both the boys’ and girls’ categories, while Wampewo Ntake Secondary School swept the handball titles in both divisions. Kakungulu Memorial School also completed a clean sweep in hockey for boys and girls.
In volleyball, Standard High School Zzana dethroned hosts Seroma Christian High School to claim the boys’ championship, while Bukedea Comprehensive School retained the girls’ title.

The 3x3 basketball honours were shared between the hosts and Ssonde, with Seroma taking the girls’ trophy and St. Michael High School Ssonde winning the boys’ category.
One of the biggest upsets of the games came in rugby, where Jinja Secondary School stunned traditional giants St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK) 27-17 to lift the title. Jinja SS enjoyed strong backing from Namilyango College students, who rallied behind them after SMACK had knocked out their side in the semifinals.
Champions from all disciplines earned the right to represent Uganda at this year’s Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games, scheduled for August in Morogoro, Tanzania.
