Day one of the USSSA National Ball Games burst into life with a flurry of goals and dominant performances across multiple disciplines as schools made early statements in Mukono.
The headline moment came in girls’ football, where tournament newcomers Jubilee SS from Karamoja endured a harsh initiation, suffering a staggering 17-0 defeat to Mukono Kings in a one-sided clash at Seroma. The result set the tone for a day defined by heavy scorelines.
Elsewhere, Wakiso-based Rines made a statement with a 6-0 demolition of St. Peters Hoima, while Bunya SS brushed aside Francis Ayume Memorial 5-1. Amus College also joined the rout with a 5-0 win over Kikoni High, as defending champions St. Noa Girls opened their campaign ruthlessly, hammering Ijumo Progressive 6-0.

On the basketball court, Amus College carried their championship pedigree into the boys’ category, cruising to a 43-15 victory over Viva College. However, last year’s runners-up St. Cyprian Kyabakadde stumbled early, falling 44-31 to Elite High School from Entebbe. Mbogo Mixed and Janan SS recorded the highest-scoring games of the day, dispatching Forest Hill (50-35) and Nabumali High (50-28) respectively.
The newly introduced U-17 netball competition also delivered emphatic results. Powerhouse St. Mary’s Kitende overwhelmed St. Francis Busunju 37-5, while Madina Islamic proved equally dominant in a 33-6 thrashing of St. Kizito SS. Bulo Parents and Mubende Light posted convincing wins, though one rare moment of balance saw JORI and Ediofe Girls share a 23-23 draw.
In boys’ volleyball, hosts Seroma delighted home fans with a straight-sets 2-0 win over Nyaka Vocational. Hilton High mirrored that result against Entebbe SS, while St. Paul (Rukungiri) and St. Joseph Vocational also secured comfortable victories. Wamatovu Moslem, however, had to dig deep for a 2-1 triumph over Masaka SS.
Defending girls’ volleyball champions Bukedea began their title defense with a composed 2-0 win against Wampewo Ntake, as Tororo Girls matched that scoreline in their victory over Adelante Africa.
Action continues across various venues in Mukono District, with the week-long competition set to climax on the 8th. The top four teams in each discipline will earn the honor of representing Uganda at the FEASSA Games in Morogoro, Tanzania.
