Sommet BC will be aiming to climb to the top of the National Basketball League table when they face Kampala Rockets on Sunday at Lugogo Arena in a game that carries significant weight.
Head coach Albert Aciko believes his team is ready for the challenge.
“We know what is at stake this weekend. The players understand the importance of this game, and we are ready to compete and push for the top position,” Aciko said.
Sommet currently sit second with 14 points, level with leaders Victoria Crocs, and remain firmly in the title race. A win could lift them to the summit, though pressure remains from Namuwongo Blazers and the unbeaten City Oilers.
Their recent form has been mixed, including a narrow 61–58 loss to Victoria Crocs, but also strong wins over Rezlife Saints and JT Jaguars.
“We have been improving every game, and the players are responding well. We know consistency is key, and this is another opportunity to prove ourselves and keep pushing in the top race,” he added.
Despite sitting near the bottom of the table, Kampala Rockets remain a tricky opponent. Teams in that position often play with freedom, and Sommet will need to stay focused to avoid any surprises.
“We respect every opponent because this league is competitive. Rockets will come with energy, but we must stay disciplined, focused, and execute our game plan for all four quarters.”
In the women’s category, KCCA Leopards face a crucial double header, starting with Angels on Saturday before taking on KIU Rangers on Sunday.
KCCA are third on the table with 16 points, just behind leaders JT Lady Jaguars and unbeaten UCU Lady Canons. They come into the weekend in strong form, having won four of their last five games.
The Leopards are expected to secure a win against Angels, who are yet to register a victory this season, but the real test will come against KIU Rangers. KIU, sitting mid-table, have shown they can challenge bigger teams and could disrupt KCCA’s push for the top. Maximum points from both games will be crucial for the Leopards to keep pressure on the leaders.
