Uganda's national netball team, the She Cranes, will battle for a fifth-place finish at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after defeating hosts Scotland 65-56 in their final Group B match.

The victory saw Uganda finish third in the group with six points after winning three of their five matches.

The She Cranes will now face either South Africa or England in the fifth-place playoff, matching their best-ever Commonwealth Games finish achieved at Birmingham 2022.

Uganda opened their campaign with an impressive 59-50 victory over Wales before overpowering Trinidad and Tobago 80-36. However, defeats to world number two New Zealand (58-50) and Jamaica (55-49) denied them a place in the semifinals.

The win over Scotland ensured the She Cranes ended the group stage on a positive note and kept alive their hopes of equaling their 2022 performance.

Goalkeeper Haniisha Muhameed said the team approached the Scotland match determined to finish strongly.

"We came into the game with the intention of winning because we wanted to finish the group on a high," Muhameed said.

Looking ahead to the classification match, Muhameed said the team was ready to face either South Africa or England.

"We shall watch the South Africa versus England game. We have played South Africa a couple of times, so we have an idea of how they look on court, but we also want to get a feel of how England plays," she said.

A victory in the playoff would see Uganda equal its best-ever finish at the Commonwealth Games, while defeat would see the She Cranes end the tournament in sixth place.
