Uganda 45 South Africa 70

Coach Rashid Mubiru has blamed Uganda's 45-70 opening-day loss to South Africa in the Vitality Netball Nations Cup on injuries.

South Africa was in amazing form as they blew the She Cranes out of the water to land the first blow in the quad series, which includes England, South Africa, and Uganda.

“It was a fair game, but my team lost because we had a few injuries,” stated Mugerwa.

The She Cranes found themselves on a slippery slope from the very first quarter when they turned the ball over a couple of times and could not hold on to their interceptions.

Debutante Nassimu Mutesi could not keep up with the high intensity from South Africa. The midcourt could not sustain the press, which left the team playing on the back foot.

On Sunday, Uganda has a date against Malawi, and this one is a must-win encounter.

In terms of holding onto sixth place in the world, they have to beat Malawi. The Queens came close to doing it at the Africa Cup but failed. The Nations Cup will offer them that opportunity in a big way.
