SC Villa moved to the summit of the Uganda Premier League (UPL) standings after thrashing Police FC 6-1 at Kira Road Arena in Kamwokya on Wednesday afternoon to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

The Jogoos have won four of their six matches, drawing the other two, to reach 14 points, level with NEC.

However, Villa lead on goal difference, with a plus-11 tally compared to NEC’s plus-nine.

Villa dominated from the onset, scoring twice in the opening 13 minutes before adding four more goals to register their biggest victory of the campaign.

Ibrahim Kasinde opened the scoring in the ninth minute, heading home John Asiimwe’s corner after Police goalkeeper Hadji Shakuru failed to deal with the delivery.

Asiimwe doubled Villa’s lead four minutes later, finishing off a move created by Frank Ssebuufu as the visitors continued to trouble the Police defence.

Patrick Jonah Kakande, Ssebuufu and Kasinde maintained the pressure, with Villa adding a third goal in first-half stoppage time. Ssebuufu finished with a backheel from Isaac Mpagi Kajubi’s assist at the near post.

The Jogoos resumed after the break with the same intensity, and Kakande made it 4-0 just three minutes into the second half after weaving through the Police defence before beating Shakuru.

Ssebuufu then completed his brace with a simple tap-in after Kasinde created the opportunity, extending Villa’s lead to five goals.

Police managed a consolation in the 81st minute through Congolese forward Bedia Ikamba, who capitalised on a defensive lapse.

However, substitute Jonathan Sausa restored Villa’s five-goal advantage three minutes later to complete the rout.

Villa also enjoyed strong support from their fans, whose blue colours filled sections of the stands despite the Jogoos playing away from home.

At Rwamwanja Stadium in Kamwenge district, NEC kept pace with Villa by beating newcomers Kigezi HomeBoyz 2-0. Allan Mugalu and Marvin Oshaba scored a goal each for the Army sponsored side. The victory was NEC’s fourth in six matches.

Action continues on Thursday with defending champions Vipers travelling to Bukedea to face newcomers Kataka.
