Kitara FC head coach Wasswa Bbosa believes that their next two Uganda Premier League (UPL) fixtures will provide the perfect test as they prepare for the biggest match in the club’s history against Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
Today, Kitara hosts Kigezi HomeBoyz at Hoima City Stadium before travelling to face Kataka in their next league fixture, with Bbosa viewing both games as important preparation for the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round.
Kitara will host Al Ahly in the first leg in Hoima on October 17, and Bbosa is keen to use the two league matches to fine-tune his team ahead of the high-profile continental encounter.
“Our focus right now is on the CAF Confederation Cup fixture against Al Ahly. We know the importance of that game, and in order for us to do well in that encounter, we need to prepare adequately,” said Bbosa.
“Therefore, I am looking at our two UPL fixtures against Kigezi and Kataka. I believe they will give us a good test as far as our preparations are concerned.”
After a three-week international break, Kitara returns to league action seeking their first victory of the season.
The Royals have collected only two points from their opening two UPL matches, drawing 1-1 away to SC Villa at Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku before another 1-1 draw against Express FC at Hamz Stadium Wankulukuku.
Today’s fixture is their first league home game of the campaign.
Bbosa’s major concern remains his defence, which has conceded avoidable goals in the opening league matches and during their CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary round tie against Somalia’s Mogadishu City.
Elsewhere in the league today, Villa will be targeting the top of the table when they travel to Bukedea to face newcomers Kataka at BCS Sports Complex.
The Jogoos have 10 points from four matches and victory would take them to 13 points, one ahead of current leaders BUL, who have 12 points from four games.
At Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku, Maroons will seek to end a two-match losing run when they host Lugazi. Lugazi will also be looking to bounce back after a 2-0 defeat away to Police.
At Kira Road Arena in Kamwokya, winless Ntugasaze, who have lost all four opening matches, host Mbarara City, who are still searching for their first victory after drawing their opening two games.
