Conrad Wanyama has grown into a mainstay for Pirates Rugby Club since first joining seven years ago.

The scrum-half was also part of the triumphant side that won the national sevens circuit in 2018 and believes the current team of players can replicate the feat.

“The target is to win the Kigezi round and eventually win it all which is what we are working towards as a team. That is our goal and vision as a team.”

“We are not focusing on the opponents but our strategies. We are playing for each other as a brotherhood so that we can be happy together at the end of the day,” stated Wanyama.

“Players need to be more conversant with their play and use the tools they have to win. Self-expression as a team is important.”

With two rounds of the circuit remaining, the Bweyogerere-based side will need to close a five-point gap on log leaders Kobs, which he says has shifted emphasis on rectifying mistakes made in the previous rounds.

“We were punished by Kobs but we are doing our best to improve our expression and play within the team’s structure. We have put in a lot of work, sacrificed so much and invested resources so we are intentional about sealing silverware.”

On the other hand, Wanyama says the circuit has helped the young and new players to gel within the team forming combinations that have made them a more competitive unit.
