Netball Super League Division I
Greater Lions 38 Dynamite 46
UGISA 40 UCU 44
UPDF 61 UGX Luwero 33
NIC 57 Prisons 44
KCCA 61 Greater Lions 23
Victories go a long way in returning smiles to disappointed faces, and on Saturday, April 12, NIC defeated Prisons 57-44 to claim their first win of the Netball Super League Division I at Hamz Nakivubo Stadium on Saturday.
The 22-time champions were in imperious form as they defended well and also put up good figures in attack to deny the four-time champions a win.
“We are so happy as NIC Netball Club players. We got our first loss against KCCA, and we went back to the drawing board and tried to fix our weaknesses. Our coaches were hard at work fixing the issues all week. We managed to defend well as a unit and our shooters were in accurate form,” said NIC defender Nassim Mutesi.
Prisons coach Nourdine Kato conceded his side missed an opportunity but admitted they were up against a tough opponent.
“I am a new coach, there is a lot I still have to learn about the team, but those are not excuses because NIC too is a good team. The league is still young, and there are matches to look forward to. We need to work on winning our next few games because our opponents also lost their first match,” said Kato.
KCCA was in emphatic form as they defeated the Busia Greater Lions by 61-23 goals, as they hit the top of the table after their mammoth victory. UPDF defeated UGX Luwero 61-33 to reign supreme in the Luwero derby.
UCU, on the other hand, took a narrow 44-40 victory over UGISA, while Dynamite defeated Greater Lions in their first match of the day.
The League will resume next weekend.
