“Munaawa asked me the amount of money I needed for the computer and told me to go with him to the bank. I thought he was going to withdraw the money and give me, but I later learnt that he had gone to get a loan so that he could buy me the computer I wanted,” Mugumbya said.

Benon Mugumbya of Swangz Avenue has paid tribute to his late brother, Freddie Kibuuka Munaawa, for the efforts he put in to ensure the recording label was started.

Munaawa died of colon cancer on Friday last week and is to be buried in Boston, US.

In a number of interviews, Mugumbya thanked Munaawa, who lived in the US, for  purchasing for him the first computer that was used at Swangz Avenue.

During Munaawa’s vigil mass held at St. Luke’s Church of Uganda in Ntinda, Kampala on Monday, Frebruary 26, Mugumbya continued to credit his brother, saying had it not been for him, may be the recording label wouldn’t have come into existence.

“I had gone for a concert in the United States when my brother asked me if I could stay behind and we make more money. He even got me a job of washing plates at a particular diner, but after checking out the job, I politely told him I didn’t have any intentions of staying behind,” said Mugumbya.

He said he thought Munaawa would angry with him over the decision, but he didn’t.

Mugumbya said he then went ahead and told him he wanted to buy a specific computer to use in his role as a music producer, but he didn’t have enough money.

“Munaawa asked me the amount of money I needed for the computer and told me to go with him to the bank. I thought he was going to withdraw the money and give me, but I later learnt that he had gone to get a loan so that he could buy me the computer I wanted,” Mugumbya said.

Florence Naluyigwa Mugumbya, their mother, encouraged the mourners to put their trust in God, saying He is above everything and can do great things.

She said God has done for her great things from strengthening her after the death of her husband when she was still young up to now to an extent of even not getting married, but still living a good life.
