“The Mayanja family has been blessed with talented individuals who have used their talents to positively impact others, for example there is no way you listen to Jose Chameleone’s Katupakase song and you don’t get motivated to work,” Ssebuliba said.

Family, friends and creatives have gathered at St. Joseph Catholic Parish, Lweza on Entebbe Road to pray for the soul of Humphrey Mayanja, the brother of singer Jose Chameleone.

At 12:30pm, the casket containing the remains was brought to the church.

Singers Jose Chameleone, Weasel, Pallaso and their other siblings were  present to receive their brother, who succumbed to cancer at age 49.

Rev. Fr. Luke Ssebuliba, who led the prayers asked people to pray for Humphrey’s parents  - father Gerald Mayanja and mother Prossy Mayanja -  saying they were going through a hard time, having lost two of their children. Their youngest son - singer AK 47 - died in 2015.

Ssebuliba thanked Prossy and Gerald for having children who have not only entertained Ugandans, but also impacted their lives using their talents.

“The Mayanja family has been blessed with talented individuals who have used their talents to positively impact others, for example there is no way you listen to Jose Chameleone’s Katupakase song and you don’t get motivated to work," he said.

Ssebuliba also encouraged people not to be overtaken by vanities of the world, forgetting that God exists because at one time, they will have to face Him.

Gerald Mayanja and his wife thanked Humphrey’s friends for supporting them during his treatment, saying it is them mostly that contributed to the medical bills equating their support to 95%.

They also thanked Humphrey for not only being a good son to them, but also a great friend to his siblings.

On his part, Chameleone said Humphrey always wished for the best for his siblings that he would never let him smoke cigarettes.

Humphrey's children also praised him for being a great dad one who would always loved them.

Musicians including Juliana Kanyomozi, Ronald Mayinja, Pastor Wilson Bugembe, Coco Finger, Vampino, Benon Mugumbya and green daddy attended the mass. Dramatists Aloysius Matovu Joy, Dr.Bbosa and Hannington Bugingo were also in presence.

After the mass, the body was taken to his home in Kitiko-Mutungo in Wakiso district where they will stay for the vigil before heading to Kalangalo for burial tomorrow, April 3.
