No side in this year’s edition of the Pepsi University Football League has shown more intent to win the championship than Makerere University Business School (MUBS).
As the preliminary stages of the Pepsi University Football League come to an end, MUBS has proved unstoppable with a one hundred percent record so far.
On Thursday, they demolished the University of Kisubi 6-0 in their last game of the preliminaries to finish top of Group B on 18 points and with a clean record of having won all their six matches without conceding a goal; and so far with the biggest goal difference in the league (+17).

Buoyed by their silver medal from the FASU Games in Nairobi recently, MUBS are targeting to win their third university title this year
“I’m very happy; extremely happy because my boys are responding very well. We are playing every game like a final, but I think even the depth of my squad offers me a wide range of options to choose from,” MUBS Coach Charles Ayiekoh said.
“I would like to thank my players for the job well done so far, maximum points; clean record but that now is like history. We now need to focus on the quarter-finals and it is all down to preparations and exhibiting teamwork.
“We struggled to score in the opening fixtures but we have now stabilized and all our departments are functioning well. We always come into these competitions intending to win, so we are focused on winning our third university trophy because it is long since we last won it,” Ayiekoh stated.
Justin Odong’s brace, one in each half set MUBS rolling before Moses Kasinga, Calvin Mayani, Davis Kanyola, and Omar Safi added one each against hapless UNiK who had Alex Kamya sent off in the second half.
UNiK Coach Louis Kizito conceded defeat saying his side was too inferior to MUBS well-prepared side
“They have a very good team and they recruited well and I think we have to learn from them, to recruit well and more in the attacking and goalkeeping department. We shall look to recruit quality players that can match the quality that is in the league,” Kizito noted.
“I also have to improve myself because you can blame all the defeats on me because it is me that makes the most decisions,”
As other sides wait to see whether they can qualify as the best runners-up from the various groups, MUBS, alongside Uganda Christian University and Uganda Martyrs University have already sealed qualification as group leaders in Groups B, A, and E respectively.
The biggest battles for qualification are in Group C and D where Bishop Stuart, Kyambogo, and Kabale all still have a mathematical chance of qualifying with the Kyambogo and Kabale Group C clash the only one remaining. Bishop Stuart leads the group on 6 points while Kyambogo and Kabale are on 4 each.
Makerere leads Group D on six points, one ahead of YMCA and St. Lawrence who are on 5 points each with five fixtures remaining in the group. Mbarara University is on one point but with three games in hand.
Action in the Pepsi University Football League continues on Friday with a Group F encounter between Bugema and Busitema University in Bugema.`
