Makerere University were crowned FUFA Women Elite League champions of the 2021/2022 season after a commanding 6-0 victory over Asubo Gafford Ladies on Saturday at Kabaka Kyabaggu stadium.
The two sides topped their respective groups and attained qualification for the FUFA Women Super League for next season but there was the need to have a champion for this league hence the meeting.
Makerere University topped Elizabeth Group with 30 points and went unbeaten, winning nine games, and drawing three.
Asubo Gafford Ladies on the other hand finished top of the Victoria Group with 23 points.
The students had no mercy for Asubo Gafford Ladies where they led the game 4-0 at halftime after a dominant performance.
Clinical forward Sharon Namatovu bagged a brace in the second and ninth minutes, Winnie Babirye and Jemima Twesigye added the other goals to put their side in a solid lead at the interval.
Early in the second half, Namatovu completed a hat trick in the 48th minute and Rebecca Nakasato put the icing on the cake in the 54th minute with their sixth goal of the day.
Makerere University was awarded medals and the trophy by the third vice-president of FUFA, Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi.
Makerere University and Asubo Gafford Ladies will take up slots that were previously occupied by relegated She Maroons and Tooro Queens in the 2022/2023 FUFA Women Super League campaign.
