ICC CWC Challenge League B

Uganda v Italy (Kyambogo)

Hong Kong v Jersey (Lugogo)

Uganda will look to build on their performance against Bermuda when they take on Italy on Friday at the Kyambogo Oval.

The Cricket Cranes managed to get their first win of the tournament but importantly the coach Lawrence Mahatlane was really happy with how well the team followed the game plan.

He is looking forward to the match knowing the team still has their destiny in their own hands.

“We are looking forward to the game and ensuring we keep working on our processes. With our destiny still in our own hands. It is important we do the simple things right,” he reiterated.

On Tuesday, many of the elements in the Cricket Cranes set-up came together to deliver a complete performance and the intention is the same against the Gareth Berg-led team.

Berg on Thursday took 3/33 against Hong Kong which makes him an individual to be wary of but Uganda has to trust their own ability.

“They (Italy) are a decent side, especially with Gareth as Coach and Captain. So, we shall respect them and do our own things,” said Mahatlane

So far, the experience has been very significant for team Uganda. With the bat, Simon Ssesazi and Ronak Patel have led the charge but the middle order has to do more. Captain Brian Masaba has been a great support but the likes of Dinesh Nakrani, Fred Achelam and Riazat Ali Shah all need to apply themselves more.

The lack of runs from the middle has probably contributed to the losses but if they can step up and contribute to the runs it will take the pressure off the top.

Bowlers look like they have also adjusted to the conditions with the ball and the pitches. Spinner Henry Ssenyondo has found joy on the wickets and his five maidens on Tuesday are a depiction of the growth from day one. Nakrani and Riazat have done a good job varying their speed. Taking the pace off when there is a need.

It is important for Uganda to finish these next two games on a high because the final leg of this journey will take us to Jersey where the aim would be to win all matches.
