Losers and winners in the 2024 Mbarara City Motor Rally

The 2024 Mbarara City Motor Rally climaxed on Sunday, with rally ace Jas Mangat overcoming the competition at hand to come top for the highest score at the NRC rankings from the very first event.

Mangat cruising in his new Hyundai i20 R5 topped the rest after coming home on 1:10:21.84 hours, 10 minutes ahead of second placed Jonas Kansiime (1:20:21.13) with former champion Ponsiano Lwakataka  getting closely to third place on 1:20:48.45 while home boy Didas Matsiko in a Subaru Impreza finished 5th on 1:31:06.74.

However, that was just for the overall accolades for there were different other accolades awarded to drivers who made a podium finish in their respective categories as the organisers Motorsport Promotions Uganda (MPU) in conjunction with Mbarara City Rally Club (MCRC) scored on the awards point.

Seven different categories were awarded with the top three drivers  each receiveing a prize for their performances after the overall winners awards.

The Two Wheel Drive (2WD) was topped by Edward Kirumira/Shakila Nabwami in a Toyota Corona with a total time of 1:41:45.62, with Ibrahim Lubega/Robert Katabarwa in a Toyota fx  coming second on 1:47:48.27 while Samuel Watendwa/Alvin Luyimbazi in a Toyota fx came third on 1:48:49.43.

The Clubman’s Rally Championship (CRC) was topped by Musa Ssegabwe/Mathias Kiyega in a Mitsubishi Evo 9 with a time of 1:04:38.24 while Bushenyi’s Christopher Kateera/Noordin Bilaari in a Subaru Impreza GC8 came closely second with 1:05:36.77 and Odeon Tumwebaze navigated by Asuman Mohammed in a Toyota Altezza finished third on 1:06:1452 in a category competed in by 6 drivers of whom John Paul Kyebambe, Ahmed Ssenyonjo and Haruna Kataza followed in that order.

Jonas Kansime took the Division I accolade with a time of 1:20:21.13 with Mustapha Mukasa/Laurence Mwambazi in a Mistubishi evo 9 coming second on 1:30:37:80 while Faisal Kayira/Hakim Kamoga in a Subaru Impreza finished third on 1:54:06.53 and Julius Ssemambo coming last.

Mbarara’s Didas Matsiko navigated by Alfred Mutanda in a Subaru Impreza topped Division II with a time of 1:31:06.74, Joshua Muwanguzi/Hamza Lwanga in a Subaru Impreza N12 came second with 1:31:39.46 while Isaac Ssozi navigated by female Monica Birwinyo in a Subaru Impreza N8 finished third with a time of 1:41:16.36, beating the rest of the 5 competitors Edward Kirumira, Moses Okello, Godfrey Nsereko, Amir Kavuma and Salim Gasemba in that order.
