Uganda Lacrosse Association (ULA) acting president Kenneth Kasule has been arrested by the state house Anti-Corruption Unit for allegedly embezzling government funds meant for the national team's air tickets to the USA.

The former lacrosse player was arrested last week after he failed to purchase air tickets for the lacrosse men’s team that is due to travel for senior men’s lacrosse championships in San Diego, USA this month.

Kasule was supposed to pay sh97m for air tickets for the travelling contingent but only bought tickets for sh37m ($10,000) leaving a balance of sh60m ($16,103).

When asked by the team manager Brian Kwesiga, Kasule couldn’t account for the remaining tickets required for the entire team to travel.

Kwesiga reported the matter to the authorities and notified the National Council of Sports (NCS) who issued sh130m to take care of the tickets for all the players travelling.

NCS assistant general secretary David Katende was tasked to get a progress report from Kasule in regards to the procuring of tickets since the association had requested to personally procure the tickets and refused to do as asked and went into hiding.

His arrest was approved in a letter by the head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit

NCS general secretary Bernard Ogwel confirmed the arrest and said that he is set to go and record a statement with Police in regards to the incident since he issued the money to the federations three weeks ago.

“I would like this person to face the law and get prosecuted if he used government money for personal stuff and I will record a statement with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to show that the association got money from NCS in regards to procuring tickets for the team to travel,” said Ogwel

This is the second time the association is getting caught up in a travel scandal. Last year, the women's team was denied visas to the USA over forged documents.
