Uganda Premier League

Busoga Utd v SC Villa
NEC v Kitara

Kitara FC return to the Philip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo on Thursday evening targeting only three points to keep their Uganda Premier League title hopes alive and consolidate top spot.

They were victorious on their last visit to this famous ground at the end of February when they beat Abdullah Mubiru's KCCA 1-0 through Denis Omedi's second-half goal.

They will be hoping for similar fortunes or even better under the floodlights against Hussein Mbalangu's stubborn NEC FC who are among the chasing pack in fifth place.

The league has reached a level where all the top six teams in contention for the title this season cannot afford to drop a single point in the remaining few games.

Should Kitara manage to beat NEC, they will open up a seven-point gap between themselves and second-placed BUL (40 pts) who will not be in action until Saturday when they host Wakiso Giants at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.

Kitara have an average record on the road this season, recording five wins, four draws and three defeats to BUL, Vipers and Busoga United.

Omedi who has scored 10 goals already this season, Jude Ssemugabi, Living Kabon, and Paul Mucureezi, will be key in the Kitara’s hunt for goals.

Kitara come into this match on the back of a goalless draw at home against BUL last week.

On the other hand, NEC suffered a 1-0 defeat in their last outing away to Wakiso Giants at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, a result that saw them drop from third place to fifth.

But in the last game they played at Lugogo, they beat the Maroons 2-1 and will be desperate to replicate this against the visiting Masindi side.

NEC will also be aiming exact revenge on Kitara who beat them 1-0 in the reverse fixture played in Masindi.

Away from Lugogo, third-placed SC Villa are going to be away at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru to battle relegation-threatened Busoga United who are desperate for maximum points to avoid the drop.

Villa are just one point behind BUL and should they get maximum points, they will move into second place.
