Joseph Cwinyaai and Peace Kabasweka are still Uganda’s highest-ranked amateur golfers in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) as the new season approaches in a few weeks.

Cwinyaai, who won eight WAGR events last year and six the previous season (2024) and was ranked 199th by November but has previously hit 185th, the best for a Ugandan player to date, is currently ranked 317th in the world.

Cwinyaai enjoyed a stellar season, registering 30 top-ten finishes over the 2024-25 (last 104 weeks).

On her part, Kabasweka, who won seven events, including the 50th Ikoyi Ladies Open in Nigeria, has the best ranking (317) among the top amateur lady golfers in the country. Cwinyaai is followed by the 2024 Uganda Open champion Joseph Reagan Akena, who is ranked 639th, having made 23 top-ten finishes, including five wins.

Anthony Otukei, who registered six top-ten finishes, including two second-place finishes, in ten events last year, follows with a 1243rd rank, while Joseph Kasozi, who registered 13 top-ten finishes, is currently ranked 1298th.

The other top amateurs in the country, Godfrey Kambale, Andrew Ssekibejja, and Ibrahim Ssemakula, are ranked 1607th, 2317th, and 2660th in the world.

US-based Ugandan Godfrey Nsubuga, who in July 2024 had the best rank in the country (205) and at one time hit the 191st mark, is currently ranked 2789th, having relocated to the US, where he faces tougher opposition in collegiate tournaments and other events.

Out of the 20 events he competed in in 2024, Nsubuga managed six top-ten finishes, including two second-place finishes in the Rodeo at the Ridge and the Bridgestone HBCU Invitational (DII Men) Collegiate championships.

He is currently undertaking a four-year scholarship at Winston Salem State University in North Carolina, where he is pursuing a degree in Computer and Information Science.

The other top-ranked amateur players in the country include Meron Kyomugisha (679th), Martha Babirye (1025th), Gloria Mbaguta (1207th), and Judith Komugisha (1458th). The WORLD AMATEUR GOLF RANKING ranks male and female amateur golfers by assessing performance at thousands of amateur golf tournaments and championships around the world.

It is based on the results of over 2,600 amateur tournaments per year (and amateurs participating in certain professional events) and is updated each Wednesday.

Rankings are based on the players' average performances in counting events over a rolling period.
