Kawempe Muslim assistant coach Salim Kibirige feels they will be a better side if they rectify their mistakes.

Kibirige was speaking after beating Tanzania in the third-place playoff match 1-0 on Friday during the CAF U15 Pan African Schools Football Championship in Zanzibar and they managed to settle for $150,000 as prize money.

“The teams we faced have been competitive. We tried to catch up but some mistakes cost us. Let's go back and rectify those mistakes, you never know, we shall also be champions,” he stated.

Cynthia Kirenga was on target for the Ugandan side, while Shadia Nabirye who scored three goals in the competition was the top scorer.

Kawempe Muslim and St Mary’s Secondary School, Kitende represented the CECAFA region in both boys and girls having won the qualifiers last year in December in Kenya. However, Kitende did not go far in the competition since they were eliminated in the group stages.

South Africa and Tanzania beat Morocco and Guinea to win the girls' and boys' crowns respectively.

The CAF African Schools Football Championship is a partnership between CAF, African governments, member associations, and schools.

The CAF African Schools championship is funded by the Motsepe Foundation which donated $10m (sh38b) towards the programme. This was to help to develop talents at the grassroots on the continent as well as help the participating schools in putting up football infrastructures.
