St Mary’s Kitende and Kawempe Muslim Secondary School have earned the prestigious honor of representing Uganda at the 2026 CAF African Schools Football Championships.

Both schools showcased exceptional talent during the U-15 boys’ and girls’ football competitions at the USSSA National Ball Games II and Athletics Championships, securing the boys’ and girls’ trophies respectively.

As a result, Kitende will represent Uganda in the boys’ category, while Kawempe Muslim will compete in the girls’ division.

USSSA CEO Chris Banage Mugisha confirmed the two institutions as Uganda’s representatives in the upcoming continental championship, with the host country yet to be announced.

“I’m delighted to announce that, having previously presented St Mary’s Kitende and St Noa Girls Zzana for the 2025 CAF competition in Accra, Ghana, Uganda will once again be proudly represented by St Mary’s Kitende and Kawempe Muslim School in this prestigious CAF event,” Mugisha said.

He added that St Noa Girls Zzana earned a silver medal in Accra after a 2–0 loss to hosts Ghana in the final, while Kitende finished fourth following a narrow 2–1 defeat in the third-place playoff. As runners-up, Zzana received a silver medal, a trophy, and $200,000 worth of sports infrastructure support—on top of the $100,000 earned during zonal qualifiers.

Ronald Mulajje, games teacher at St Mary’s Kitende, attributed their strong performance to early preparation and discipline.

“Our goal now is to ensure players undergo comprehensive training to avoid missing out on the CAF trophy again,” Mulajje stated.

Meanwhile, Kawempe Muslim head coach Khalifa Kiyingi Ayub expressed confidence in his team’s ability to make a lasting impression at the continental tournament.

“We are ready and determined to represent Uganda with excellence,” Ayub affirmed.

The CAF African Schools Football Championship is the largest youth football competition on the continent, structured across three stages—National, Zonal, and Continental. It is organized by CAF in collaboration with selected Zonal Unions and Member Associations.
