David Kamulindwa shot an overall four-under 136 in 36 holes to win the Equity-NARO Professionals Golf Open championship at the Mary Louise Simkins Memorial Golf Course in Namulonge on Friday.
Kamulindwa notched nine birdies and five bogeys over the two rounds to win his second event this month and his fourth this year following his earlier triumph during the Kinyara Open in Masindi.
Competing in Namulonge for the third time, Kamulindwa edged Hussein Bagalana, who recently won the Kakira Open by two strokes, to cap what has been his best season ever in the paid ranks, taking the lion’s share of sh10m prize money.
He hit six birdies and four bogeys in the opening round before wrapping up the championship with three birdies and one bogey in the last round to win.
“I missed the cut the first time I played here, while last year I finished joint-fourth, and now I’m the winner,” Kamulindwa said.
“The course is dry, so it wasn’t easy, but I remained calm on the course, and I have been training well, so I tackled it hole-by-hole. It has been a good year for me, the improvement is there, and I hope to build on this next year.”
Kamulindwa, who bagged his seventh career win since 2018, will now try his luck in the Sunshine Development Tour tournaments in Kenya in the coming few weeks as he prepares for next season.
“I want to play as many foreign tournaments as possible next year if I can get enough sponsorship.”
Defending champion Marvin Kibirige finished third overall, three strokes away, while Rodell Gaita and Silver Opio tied for fourth.
