Entebbe Club professional golfer David Kamulindwa shot an overall five under 138 over 36 holes to win the 27th edition of the Kinyara Golf Open professionals’ tournament at Kinyara Golf Club in Masindi.
Kamulindwa registered nine birdies, seven of them in the second round, alongside five bogeys, with the remaining holes played in par across both rounds. His performance enabled him to beat last year’s champion, Grace Kasango, to the largest share of the ten million shillings prize money.
This marked Kamulindwa’s sixth career win and his third victory of the year since turning professional in 2018. Last month, he won the Watoto Golf fundraiser tournament at Kitante and the Stanbic Entebbe Open, strengthening his position as one of the country’s leading professionals.
“The course was in good condition, the greens were better, so I just played on regulation, ensuring I hit as many fairways as possible to give myself a chance of getting a couple of birdies.”
Kamulindwa had trailed round one leader Marvin Kibirige by six strokes after the opening round. However, a strong final round, highlighted by seven birdies, put him ahead of the field. Kibirige struggled in the second round with a seven over 78, which also allowed defending champion Kasango, who carded a 73, to close in and contend for the title before settling for second place.
“My target was to score at least three birdies in the last round to finish among the top two, but I ended up winning, so I’m happy with the outcome because I played very well and everything went my way, getting seven birdies with only two bogies and finishing with a 5 under was very good.” He stated. Kamulindwa’s best position before Friday’s win had been second place in 2018.
“I want to play many more and win more because even my coaches are working hard to ensure I get good results in every event, so I’m happy and grateful to have them”.
Kamulindwa and the other Ugandan professionals will now focus on the Kakira Open and the Namulonge Open, scheduled over the next two weeks, before he attempts to compete on the Sunshine Development Tour in Kenya in December and January 2027.
