Eric Miller and Joyce Kisembo registered 47 and 40 stableford points, respectively, to emerge as the overall winners in both genders of the Kenya Day–KCB Golf Tournament, played at the Uganda Golf Club course, Kitante, on Saturday.
The event is one of three, alongside Diaspora Day and Jamhuri Day, organised as part of Kenya Week leading up to their independence celebrations. Mary Louise Simkins Memorial Golf Club’s (Namulonge) Miller and Tooro Club’s Kisembo, who is based in Kampala, could not hide their excitement after they each grabbed a Kenya Airways ticket to a KQ destination of their choice, which came with their victories.
“At first it wasn’t easy because the course was intimidating with the greens looking immaculate, but I got used to it along the way. I had a good front nine with birdies on holes 4 and 8,” Kisembo, who collected her 14th trophy this season, stated.

She said she plans to fly to Dubai with her air ticket, while Miller was still undecided on which destination to choose after topping the event, which attracted 140 golfers.
“It is so amazing to win this because this was my first tournament to win in about a year since starting out, and I’m excited. I had about five pars and several bogies,” said Miller, who plays off handicap 25.
Noela Byuma, Head of Marketing and Communications at KCB Bank Uganda, praised the quality of the competition and the significance of the event.
“This tournament is a powerful reflection of KCB Bank’s commitment to East Africa. Just as a professional golfer must manage the risk and precision of every shot, KCB Bank Uganda is committed to the disciplined, strategic investments necessary to drive regional economic growth. We are immensely proud to use the platform of golf, a game synonymous with integrity and sportsmanship, to deepen the bond between Uganda and Kenya,” stated Byuma.
Wario Guyo, who represented the Kenya High Commission in Uganda, added, “Kenya Day is a moment to celebrate our unity, and what better way than through sport? The camaraderie witnessed on the tee boxes and the fairways today is precisely the spirit of collaboration we champion in trade, tourism, and diplomacy.”
Paul Charles Rukundo, captain of the Uganda Golf Club, noted that the level of competitive play was incredibly high, demonstrating the rising standard of amateur golf in East Africa.
The event was sponsored by KCB Bank, while Uganda Baati, Equity Bank, Axian Telecom, Britam, and Kenya Ports Authority served as co-sponsors, ensuring the event’s success.
