Kalaki SS dominates USSSA-Kalaki district athletics championship

Kalaki Secondary School emerged as the dominant force at the USSSA-Kalaki District Athletics Championship, which concluded on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Otuboi Comprehensive Field.

The one-day event brought together eight secondary schools from across Kalaki District. Kalaki SS clinched the overall trophy with an impressive 320 points, including 178 points in the boys’ category.

Speaking to Vision Sports, headteacher John Robert Osuu expressed his delight:

“I am more than happy to see my school lifting the overall athletics trophy for the second consecutive time. We are aiming for even greater success in the coming years.”

Osuu emphasized the school’s broader vision:

“Kalaki SS is committed to creating a game-changing environment in Soroti District, starting with sports.”

Head coach Simon Okello praised the students for their exceptional performance, noting that their efforts sent a strong message to other schools in the region.

The event, graced by Resident District Commissioner Chris Mike Okirya, saw Kakure SS finish second with 229 points, while Otuboi Comprehensive SS secured third place with 222 points.

Winners were awarded trophies and medals. Kalaki SS received two trophies—one for the boys’ category and another for the overall championship.

The event also served as a selection ground for athletes who will represent Kalaki District at the upcoming USSSA Zonal Championship, to be hosted at Kaberamaido SS in Kaberamaido District.

In his closing remarks, RDC Chris Mike Okirya encouraged the athletes to seize this opportunity to engage in healthy competition, build camaraderie, and strive for excellence in sports.
