The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Teso Zone has named a team of 27 athletes to represent the region at the upcoming National Ball Games II and Athletics Championships.
The team, comprising 14 boys and 13 girls, is currently in residential training camp at Bishop Maraka College in Kumi Municipality, ahead of the national event scheduled for July 10–19, 2025, at St. Peter's College, Tororo.
The athletes were selected based on their outstanding performances during the zonal qualifiers held from June 26–30 at Esingu Grounds, hosted by Kaberamaido SS and St. Thomas Girls. The trials featured a variety of track and field disciplines, including javelin, shot put, triple jump, discus, and high jump.
Soroti District continued its dominance by retaining the athletics general trophy for the third consecutive year, amassing 374 points. Kaberamaido followed with 181 points, while Bukedea came third with 157. Other participating districts included Kumi and Katakwi (tied at 138), Ngora (128), and Kalaki (53).
USSSA Teso Zonal Chairperson, John Robert Osuu, urged the selected athletes to remain disciplined as they nurture their talent: “Discipline is key. Without it, talent alone cannot take you far,” he advised.
