John Omondi, the head coach of St. Cyprian High School Kyabakadde, has vowed to build on the experience gained at the recently concluded Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games to elevate his basketball team’s performance.

Omondi guided the school to a commendable fourth-place finish in the boys’ basketball 5x5 category and believes the lessons learned in Kakamega, Kenya, will be instrumental in preparing for the 2026 FEASSA Games in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

“We learnt a lot this year in Kakamega. Finishing fourth in such a competitive inter-regional tournament is no small feat,” Omondi said.

He highlighted the tournament as a valuable learning curve, especially for the boys’ basketball team, who had the opportunity to test themselves against strong opponents from Kenya and Rwanda.

“I’m proud of my team’s display. We have young players who are still growing, and I see great potential in them. Our 16–6 win over Lukenya was a standout moment, and I was equally pleased with our performance against Marie Reine from Rwanda,” he added.

Daudi Mwasa, games master at St. Cyprian High School Kyabakadde, emphasized the importance of recruitment in strengthening the team. “We’ll focus on recruiting new talent to address the minor mistakes we observed during the championship,” Mwasa told Vision Sport.

Despite missing out on a medal, Mwasa expressed pride in the team’s overall performance. Reflecting on the 2022 FEASSA Games in Arusha, Tanzania, he noted that while the team had a solid showing then, this year’s effort demonstrated clear progress and commitment.

“In the next edition, I expect St. Cyprian High School Kyabakadde to build on this momentum. We’ll refine our strategies, enhance teamwork, and continue developing our players. The challenges we face are opportunities for growth, and with hard work, I believe we’ll become a formidable side in the FEASSA Games,” Mwasa concluded.
