Eleven schools have fielded teams for the 2025 Kaberamaido District Secondary Schools Sports Association (KASSSA) championships, with ten boys' teams and eleven girls' teams participating. Among the schools, ten are mixed, while only one is single-sex.
Francis Atubo, chairperson of KASSSA, noted that only one school, Aperkira SSS, failed to participate this year. The ten schools that presented boys' teams include Swagere Community SS, St. Paul SS, Kobulubulu SS, Midland High School, and St. Karoli Lwanga SS. Others are Kaberamaido SS (the host school), Asone High School, Alwa Seed SS, Alwa Secondary School, and Haven of Hope.
Atubo explained that all ten schools fielded both girls' and boys' teams, with the exception of St. Thomas Girls’ SS, which presented only a girls' team. He highlighted Kaberamaido’s strong track record in zonal competitions, noting that for the past two consecutive years, at least one school from the district has reached the zonal finals and qualified for nationals.
In 2023, Alwa SS lost to Amus College School in Kumi District, while in 2024, Kobulubulu SS faced a similar fate, losing to Amus College School in the boys' football finals hosted by Ngora High School in Ngora District.
“I am optimistic that our teams will perform well in the regionals this year. Discipline among our athletes will be key to our success,” Atubo said.
The 2025 Teso Zonal Championship will be hosted in Kumi District, while the national championships will see boys' competitions held in Ngora and girls' events in Bukedea. The ten boys' teams and eleven girls' teams will compete in the district finals to determine the zonal representatives.
